I had two comments
1: I was surprised you did not mention Robert Burns: The BBC lists 716 songs and poems that he wrote or collected.Jean Redpath has done a great job of recording his music. Many of the songs he wrote down were collected when he traveled the country side and sat at the pubs and listened to the banter. Had he not written them down, many would have been totally lost.
2: My grandmother used to talk about waulking songs that the women used to chant as they felted the wool. She would hum or sing a few lines and would use them sometimes when she churned butter. I think many of these tunes have been lost, but would make for an interesting program.
I am so jealous that you are going to Glasgow….I wish I were going with you.
I would love it if you would write an article about Scottish music history. Thank you for all you do!
