**Maxwell Schaeffer Named Host of KFMG’s “Morning Music with Maxwell”
DES MOINES, Iowa — Community radio station KFMG-LP, at 98.9 FM, is pleased to announce that longtime Central Iowa broadcaster and media personality, Maxwell Schaeffer, will be the host of Morning Music with Maxwell, airing Monday through Saturday from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., beginning Thursday morning, July 30th.
KFMG is a listener-supported, nonprofit community radio station serving the City of Des Moines with its Adult Album Alternative (AAA) format while reaching audiences worldwide through live streaming at www.kfmg.org.
Schaeffer brings more than 40 years of broadcasting experience to the KFMG microphone. A familiar voice throughout Central Iowa for decades, he is also a performing singer-songwriter, theatre actor and director, audio and video producer, and an inductee into the Iowa Rock ‘n’ Roll Association's Hall of Fame.
“It is an honor to be invited to join the KFMG family,” said Schaeffer. “I am especially grateful for the opportunity to follow longtime morning host, Gary Monte, whose dedication to KFMG and its listeners has helped define the station for so many years.”
Reflecting on his new role, Schaeffer added, “I’m a staunch supporter of local radio’s role as a provider of information and entertainment for our capital city and I value KFMG’s unique connection to our music and arts community. As a not-for-profit community station, KFMG has kept a consistent focus on that mission. I look forward to lending my voice to support local artists and live performance events here in Central Iowa, while sharing great stories and the depth of KFMG’s music library as a companion for Des Moines’ early risers!”
KFMG’s unique programming and community service are made possible through the generous support of its listeners, underwriters, and sponsors. Listeners can tune in at 98.9 FM throughout the Des Moines area or stream live anytime, anywhere, at www.kfmg.org.
KFMG is pleased, as well, to share that Lee Ann Bakros, a longtime KFMG listener and local arts advocate, also joins us—for KFMG’s Midday Music Show - following Maxwell from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Lee Ann has been volunteering for local arts and cultural organizations since her high school years; she was executive director of Metro Arts, the organization that originated Jazz in July; has written about the arts for Cityview, and has been on staff at The Des Moines Playhouse for more than 30 years.
KFMG is ALSO pleased to announce that Tommy Doggett is joining the KFMG family, hosting Take the Jazz Train, the first two hours of KFMG’s Sunday Morning Jazz Show, from 6 a.m. - 8 a.m. every Sunday morning. Tommy has collaborated with Rock musicians, performed at art installations, composed for stage and film, and has a long-time love for Pop, Soul, and especially Jazz music. He was inducted into the Iowa Rock ‘n’ Roll Association's Hall of Fame in 2015 as a member of the band Freestyle. Since 2017, Doggett has been a member of the Instrumental Music Program in the Urbandale Community School District.
Lastly, KFMG welcomes the host of the station’s newest specialty program. Dr. Negus Rudison-Imhotep, Ph.D. is the host for Nuf' Reggae Music, which airs every Saturday night from 6 - 8 p.m. Dr. Rudison-Imhotep has served the public as the former Chair of the City of Des Moines Civil & Human Rights Commission, and as a Board Member with Des Moines Habitat for Humanity. Additionally, he held the position of Chair of the Iowa Commission on the Status of African Americans and served on the Executive Board of the Iowa Human Rights Department. He also has a lifelong love for Reggae music. Prepare to be enlightened and entertained by this grand master of musical and societal knowledge.
