KFMG has always had one yearly fundraising event, in October, when we host the KFMG Fall Fun(d) Drive. But, as you may have noticed, this year is different from any other during KFMG’s 13 years as a Community Station.

Like many in the music, entertainment and restaurant business, we depend upon people being able to interact in significant numbers. Not directly—we don’t have concerts at the radio station (yet), but we depend upon concert promoters and venues, bar owners—especially those who program live music, bars and restaurants in general, and cultural activities like plays, musicals and museums, just to name a few. Advertising underwriting revenue from ALL of those sources stopped in mid-March, meaning we’ve had less than $1500 in new “advertising” revenue since then. We have been able to stay on the air with the help of an SBA PPP loan, and a few generous donations from individuals. But the time has come to ask for YOUR support. We’ll need to raise approximately $30,000 dollars to get us through the end of the year. That’s our immediate goal. We need to raise about $4,500 by the end of July just to make sure we can cover payroll, rent, and other expenses, due on August 1st.

At the top of each hour we say: "KFMG is a 'listener-supported’ service of The Des Moines Community Radio Foundation." That means that a significant portion of our income comes from people just like you. People who listen to KFMG and love what we do. People who don’t want us to go away again.

Please consider helping KFMG to continue as "Your Community Voice" by providing financial assistance.

Gary has helped to set up a GoFundMe page for KFMG. You can access it with this link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/2z9ndp-a-cause-i-care-about-needs-help. You can also easily donate by making a contribution with a credit card through our supporters at Tikly at this direct link: https://app.tikly.co/kfmg989, or by calling KFMG at 515-244-4145 or 244-4146 (if you call to donate, please leave a message if the phone is not answered). Because almost all of our staff and volunteers are in one high-risk group or another, we are trying to have only one or two persons in the station at any time, and we will NOT have volunteers or staff dedicated to answering the phones. If you leave a message, indicate you wish to donate, leave a name and number, and let us know what time of day we should call back. If you wish to donate we WILL call you back. You can always donate by mailing a check or money order directly to KFMG at:

PO Box 41143
Des Moines, IA 50311

Usually we have premium items available for donors, as our way of thanking you in a tangible manner for your support, but not for this emergency fund-raiser. Your reward will be the continuation of this radio station.

I, for one, do NOT want to have KFMG go away….

Thank you very much for your support.

In the mid-80's I worked at Beggar's Banquet. Ron would come in order a chef salad without the "spicy stuff." He made me a tape of a Mason Proffit album. I love listening to this station and don't want it to go away. So Ann and I are going to contribute $50 to help out the fundraiser. Thanks Ron and all the staff. - J.R. Dennis

Going to just mail you a check for your emergency fundraiser. Old school. Very much enjoy Ron's programs and music choices. Brian Jones as well, and of course, Jim Autry.
One comment: If this fundraiser goes extremely well I wish you could boost your signal, just a bit. My home reception is spotty and I seem to travel the periphery of your signal on many days. The problem is an overlap from a station up in Boone on the same frequency. Don't know the call letters but the back and forth reception interference is very distracting. (It's a Country channel). Just a small boost would solve my particular issue.
Thanks for an otherwise great station. Hope you can keep it going for a long time to come.
