A quick update on where things stand as we begin our 2026 Fall Fun(d) Drive. We‘ve had a pretty good summer, all things considered. The current economic situation has caused both hospitality entities (restaurants & bars), and, to a lesser extent, concert promoters, to somewhat reduce underwriting.
So, we continue to lose underwriting advertisers slightly faster than they can be replaced. On the other hand, we’ve had good success with grant applications this past year. MOST of the credit for that goes to our bookkeeper Mary Porter, who has worked VERY hard to help with grant applications. We are most grateful for her help!! AND to both Bravo and the Polk County Board of Supervisors, who have awarded grant support to KFMG.
We have two big events, both underway, which will give you an opportunity to support “Your Community Voice” 98.9 KFMG.
Our annual Fall Fun(d) Drive runs from Sunday October 25th through Thursday the 29th.
At the top of each hour we say: "KFMG is a 'listener-supported’ service of The Des Moines Community Radio Foundation." That means that a significant portion of our income comes from people just like you. People who listen to KFMG and love what we do. People who don’t want us to go away again. It’s especially important this year, for the reasons we shared above. Please consider helping KFMG to continue as "Your Community Voice" by providing financial assistance. It really is an impressive list of stuff, and an equally impressive group of persons and entities donated all that stuff so that we can reward you for your support of KFMG-LP, 98.9FM. There’s also something important you can do that will only cost you a bit of time. As you may know, KFMG has been chosen by the readers of our monthly entertainment/cultural magazine, Cityview, as “Des Moines’ Best Radio Station” for 15 out of the last 16 years. We’d like to make it 16 out of 17, this year. For that we need your support. Please go to the Cityview Poll and vote for KFMG as “Best Radio Station.” We’d also encourage you to vote for our new Morning Show host, Maxwell Schaeffer, as “Best Radio Personality,” and for Don “T-Bone” Erickson, long-time host of “T-Bone’s House Rockin’ Blues Party” and “The Groove Zone,” both part of our Tuesday night Blues programming, as “Best Voice That Turns You On.” We have a link to the Cityview Poll on both of our Facebook pages, and on our own website, kfmg.org.
